How to Know When to Call Professionals

When You Hear a Leak

Whether you hear drips coming from your shower, sink faucet, or your toilet will not stop running, it is possibly a sign that a part of the fixture needs repair or replacement. Many would be surprised to learn that a leaky faucet can equal a water loss of more than 20 gallons in just one day, so you will want to have this resolved quickly, or it could get expensive.

Visual Signs of a Leak

A puddle under the sink or water seeping around the toilet or shower are good indicators that you have a plumbing problem. One sure sign is if you have a bathroom rug that is consistently damp or even soaked. Water leaks can become substantial quickly. Water issues need to be resolved immediately. Slow leaks under your sink can begin to mildew or mold quickly. This could mean you will have replace the cabinetry, and your floors could become damaged, needing significant repairs or replacement.

You Hear Gushing Water in the Walls

In older homes, the pipes in the wall connected to your bathroom fixtures can burst because they have become eroded. You may hear a sound like water rushing through your walls. If not taken care of immediately, your walls could burst open, spilling water all over your bathroom and potentially flooding your home. To repair this type of plumbing issue, our plumbing professionals will have to turn off the water and open the walls where you hear the leak. In some instances, you may not hear the water, but see what looks like bubbles in the drywall of your bathroom. This is also a clear sign of a pipe leak in the walls.

Your Fixtures are Making Loud Squeaking or Hissing Sounds

These noises are not normal, and they are usually indicative of worn-down parts within a fixture.

Your Fixtures are Corroded or Rusting

This is a problem that is found in many older homes. You can obviously see that the fixtures are rusted. Not only is it unsightly, but you will also probably have issues with water pressure, and the water that does come out can be “hard water.” Hard water is simply defined as when minerals, calcium, and magnesium levels are higher in your water. Hard water results in the following issues:

  • Lower water pressure

  • You feel film on your hands even after you use soap. This is caused by the soap reacting with the calcium to form soap scum

  • Keeping your tub and sink clean is harder since minerals are consistently building up

You Run Out of Hot Water Quickly

When this happens, the worst-case scenario is that your water heater is too old, and it may be time to replace it. On average, water heaters usually last between 8 to 12 years. Other reasons you could be running out of hot water too quickly include:

  • Sediment is built up inside your water tank

  • You have a broken dip tube

  • Faulty water heater thermostat

  • Too much demand for hot water from multiple sources

When you need plumbing repairs, contact CrewPros. We can handle every scenario listed above and so much more.
